The Prince of Wales speaks with business owners in a lab at Cardiff Metropolitan University

The Prince of Wales visited Cardiff to celebrate the seaweed industry and food innovation in Wales, seeing firsthand how Wales is helping food and drink businesses through food science, new product development and biomedical sciences.

On the visit to Cardiff Metropolitan University, His Royal Highness attended an innovation showcase with businesses from Wales, other parts of the UK and the Commonwealth, who use seaweed to create products across a range of industries.

In attendance were 2022 Earthshot Prize Winner Notpla and 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalist Sea Forest, organisations which both illustrate The Earthshot Prize’s mission to discover and scale pioneering solutions to the planet’s most pressing environmental issues. Seaweed is an abundant resource and a potential solution to some of the biggest environmental problems felt across the World – from plastic pollution to climate change.

Following the showcase The Prince of Wales visited the ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre. The world leading hub, which is part of Food Innovation Wales, provides food businesses with technical, operational and commercial support to enable them to operate more effectively.
